Attendance Update
Tue 27 Jan 2026At our school, we know that great attendance doesn’t happen by accident—it’s the result of caring, committed families who make education a priority every day. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all parents and carers who ensure their children arrive at school regularly, on time, and ready to learn. Your efforts make a real and lasting difference.
When children attend school consistently, they build strong learning habits, form positive friendships, and develop the confidence that comes from being fully involved in school life. Regular attendance helps them keep up with the curriculum, avoid learning gaps, and make steady academic progress. It also supports their social and emotional well-being by helping them feel connected, included, and part of our school community.
We’re pleased to share that whole-school attendance is slightly higher than it was at this point last year. This is a step in the right direction. However, there is still more work to be done. Over 80 children are currently missing more than 10% of their learning, and this level of absence has a significant impact on progress, confidence, friendships, and overall well-being. Every lesson really does count.
As a reminder, children are expected to attend school 100% of the time unless they are too ill to be here. We understand that illness happens, but we also know that many children are kept off for minor ailments that do not prevent them from taking part in a normal school day.
Children can usually still attend school if they have:
· A mild cough or cold
· A sore throat
· A headache
· Tiredness
· Mild tummy discomfort (with no sickness or diarrhoea)
· A runny or blocked nose
We must also inform parents and carers that 7 penalty notices and one court fine of £741 have recently been issued to parents due to unauthorised absences, including holidays taken during term time.
As a school, we always aim to work positively with families to support good attendance, and issuing penalty notices is a last resort. However, we are required to follow statutory guidance, and taking leave during term time without authorisation will result in a penalty.
We kindly ask all parents and carers to avoid taking holidays or planned absences during term time. Even short breaks can affect a child's learning, routine, confidence, and overall progress.
Every day in school is a building block toward future success—and you, our families, play the key role in laying that foundation. Thank you for your continued partnership, encouragement, and dedication. Together, we are helping every child thrive.

End of Term Message
Fri 19 Dec 2025Dear Parents
We have reached the end of a very busy Autumn Term.
I would like to thank all of the children, the staff and parents for working so hard all term.
The children have been an absolute delight and we are so proud of their progress this term. We are truly blessed to work with such wonderful families.
On behalf of the staff, a huge thankyou to those that have sent in cards and gifts for staff. It is never expected, but your kindness and generosity is very much appreciated.
I hope that you all have a restful and peaceful break, whether celebrating Christmas in your own way, or simply having a break from school and work routines.
We look forward to seeing the children back at school on Monday 5th January. The next training day is on Wednesday 28th January.
All best Wishes
Debbie Colley.

New School House System.
Tue 02 Dec 2025New House System
We are really pleased to be launching the new Woodgate Houses with the children this week.
These houses will be used to collect house points for good work, to take part in team and sports games and for other school activities.
Our 4 new houses are: Wembley (Red), Edgbaston (Blue), Twickenham, (Green) and Wimbledon (Yellow). They represent 4 major sports venues in the country and celebrate 4 sports that the children learn to play during their time at school.
As part of the launch for the children this week, during their PE lesson, they will be given a wristband, showing their house. We hope the children will be proud of their house, work hard to earn house points and wear the band with pride!

Parent Consultation
Thu 13 Nov 2025Dear Parents
Thank you to everyone that came to meet the teacher yesterday evening and took the time to look at their child's work.
There was a wonderful atmosphere in school and we had lots of positive and complimentary conversations with parents and children.
Thank you to those that have completed the questionnaire following their appointment - if you haven't yet done so, please take a moment to do so -your feedback really does help us.
Some of the comments on the feedback say that the 5 minute appointment is not long enough. Because we are lucky enough to have high pupil numbers in each class, we can only offer a 5 minute slot with the teacher at this Autumn term meeting - the Spring term meetings in March are longer because we use one of our training days and close the school to the children for the day and have longer slots.
However, as mentioned in previous messages, if you would like a longer conversation with your child's teacher, please book another meeting with them - they will happily meet with you again.
If you did not attend a meeting last night, please do make a time to meet your child's teacher so that you can find out how your child is doing.
As Always, thank you for your continued support
Mrs Colley

Important reminders
Fri 17 Oct 2025Good Morning
Please could you take note of the following reminders:
Dogs MUST NOT be brought on to the school site - no matter how small they are.
Children MUST NOT ride scooters or bikes in the school grounds. A pregnant lady almost got knocked over yesterday by a child on a scooter. We also have lots of little children including toddlers on the school grounds before and after school who could suffer a serious injury if they were knocked over.
Vaping and smoking is NOT PERMITTED on school grounds.
Parking and driving was particularly worrying on Trimpley Road this morning.
Please allow enough time for your journey so that you are not rushing and tempted to park your car in an unsafe place. Please also think carefully about where you are reversing, particularly when parked on the pavements.
I am seriously concerned that if driving and parking does not improve then one of our school community, a child or a parent, is going to be knocked over and seriously hurt. That would be catastrophic.
Please, can we all play our part in making school a safe place for the children -and if a member of senior staff asks you to move your car, or slow down, please treat them respectfully, rather than with abuse. We are simply trying to make the school run safe for everyone.
Thank you for your support in these matters.

Thankyou
Fri 10 Oct 2025Dear Parents
Thank you to everyone that supported Macmillan Coffee Morning last week, whether through joining us for a coffee and cake, sending in donations of cakes, or sending in money for their child to buy a cake. We raised £206.10p for Macmillan Cancer Support.
We also had a wonderful 2 day Book Fair. The children enjoyed a pottery demonstration and then had the opportunity to buy a book. It was lovely to see so many parents in Book Fair after school. The commission that we earn is used to contribute towards the cost of buying every child a book at Christmas time, one of our Woodgate traditions.
I hope you have enjoyed looking at the wonderful Scarecrows in school. Have you spotted the WWII Soldier and Evacuee, Scarecrow's wedding, the 3 blind Mice, The Gruffalo, The Very hungry Caterpillar or Ann Boleyn and Henry VIII?
Feel free to have a walk around the grounds after school one afternoon and find them all!
Have a good weekend and enjoy the mild weather while it lasts.
Mrs Colley

Christmas News
Tue 03 Dec 2024Good Morning
December has arrived!
Toy Collection
We are going to do our annual toy collection and make up gift bags for families that are struggling this Christmas and would benefit from a little help.
If you can donate a toy, a book, some stationery or some toiletries for children please just send your item into the school office and we will collate whatever we get to make some gift bags. Please, if you donate used or pre-loved items make sure they are in excellent condition.
Christmas Cards
If your child want to send Christmas cards this year, instead of sending lots, which can be costly, just ask them to write 1 card for all of their class or to the whole school. We are going to have large display boards in school so that children and staff can pin up their Christmas cards for everyone to read.
Raffle Tickets
Raffle tickets for the hampers and other prizes will go on sale on Wednesday 4th December. They cost 20p a ticket or £1 for a strip. You can buy tickets from staff on the doors or at the office. All monies raised go into school fund to be spent on the children. The raffle will be drawn on Thursday 19th December.
