Children's use of Social Media
Wed 15 Feb 2023Dear Parents of Year 5 and Year 6 children,
Once again we are in a position where children's use of mobile phones and social media group chats is causing significant issues in school, and more worryingly, is causing huge upset for many children.
Yr 5 and Yr 6 children have been in an assembly with Miss Carroll and spoken to about the dangers of social media, how to keep themselves safe and what they should not be doing. These messages are repeated regularly by all staff in school.
I am incredibly concerned about the lack of parental supervision and monitoring that takes place for some children. Many parents do not know which social media sites their children are using, who they are in groups with, what messages, voice messages and images they are sending or receiving.
In school, we can advise the children, but we are not able to monitor their activity at home. It is your responsibility as parents to keep your child safe online. Complaining to school when your child has received unkind messages or images is too late to protect your child, The only way that this can be done is if you monitor their use closely every day, or simply remove them from social media altogether. It is clear that many of the children are not mature enough to use it sensibly and safely.
None of them are legally old enough to even have these social media accounts. You should be aged 16 to have Whatsapp and 13 to have Snapchat.
Once again, I implore you to take control of your child's use of their phones and in particular social media. We simply do not have the time in school to spend on sorting these issues out that are caused at home. The children should be in school concentrating on being happy and enjoying their learning, not worrying about social media issues. If you are a parent that already has this under control and restricts or prohibits social media use, well done and thank you.

Message from Mrs Colley
Fri 06 Jan 2023Dear Parents
We have had a really positive first week back at school. The children have returned refreshed from their break and have settled back in to school. We have a 12 week Spring Term for lots of valuable learning.
Thank you for making sure your child is in correct uniform every day and for sending them in with a water bottle. Please could you make sure that their water bottles are plastic and not glass. Some bottles appear to be thick plastic but are in fact glass and there have been some accidents resulting in broken and sharp glass.
Thank you for your support with this.
Just a reminder that there are 2 training days this term, both of which have been notified since the beginning of September.
Wednesday 8th February
Wednesday 22nd March - This is parents' consultation day and the day that the children's full records of Achievement are provided.
We break up for February half term on Friday 17th February.
We break up for Easter on Friday 31st March.
I hope that these reminders are useful.
Have a lovely weekend.

Important Safety Message
Mon 12 Dec 2022Many of you will have seen yesterday and today on the news, the tragedy in Solihull where a number of children fell through ice on a frozen lake. Sadly, 3 of those children aged 8, 10 and 11 have died. A 6 year old is still in a critical condition and others are being searched for.
Our thoughts go out to the families and the community affected by this dreadful tragedy.
As the weather conditions are likely to remain at freezing and icy for a while, please talk to your children about the dangers of walking on ice covered lakes and ponds and make sure you know where they are going to play when they are out without an adult.
Thank you.

Welcome to the school year 2022-2023
Thu 08 Sep 2022A very warm welcome back to everyone. After a long summer break we are back with a strong focus on teaching and learning. We are hopeful that there will be no disruptions to the school term due to Covid infections, but we will have to wait and see how the winter develops.
Please help us to maximise learning time by making sure your child arrives at school on time every day. 10 minutes late each day adds up to almost an hour of lost learning each week.
Please also make sure your child attends every day unless they are really unwell. They can come to school with a light cold, sore throat or headache. We will look after them and phone you if they deteriorate and need to come home. Often, a dose of paracetamol before school will help them get through the day.
We are here to help, so if you have any questions please pop in and see us or phone or email your child's teacher.
