Science - Take Care
Week beginning - 09.10.23
This week the children have been looking at how we take care of ourselves. We started off in PE by looking at how exercise can benefit our body and the effects exercise can have on our bodies. We took part in exercises that would raise our heart rate and then thought about exercises that would not raise our heart rate.
In our next lesson, we looked at hygiene. We discussed how we should wash our hands and specifically how long we should wash our hands. It involved singing 'Happy Birthday' twice! We then set up our dirty hands experiment by touching some bread with dirty hands before touching another piece of bread with clean hands. Our bread was then sealed in a bag and displayed so we can observe the changes over time. We will let you know what the results of our experiment are next week!
In our final lesson this week, we looked at food and especially the needs of a balanced diet. We discussed the different food groups and through the used of the eat well plate, we looked at the portion sizes of each food group. We identified and classified food into different food groups.
Week beginning - 16.10.23
This week the children started off by describing their favourite exercise and thought carefully about why exercise is good.
The children then concluded their science experiment and found out that if you touch food with dirty hands it would get mouldy quicker than if you touched food with clean hands. Their prediction was correct!
