On this page you can find key information, see what we have been learning in school and what events we have taken part in.
Year 2 will receive homework on a Friday.
It should be completed and returned the following week.
Children will be given a sheet with either a maths, reading or writing activity.
Please ensure reading is happening as much as possible. 'Pleasure for Reading' books will be changed on a Thursday. Little Wandle books will be changed on a Tuesday.
The most important thing is that children read every day. Reading books and journals should be in school every day. Remember, one book is for rehearsing fluency (Little Wandle) and the second book is to share and read for pleasure. Don't forget to sign your child's journal each time they read so they can earn their Reading Ambassador awards. Only one read a day will be counted towards their 'reads'.
25 reads - Bronze award
50 reads - Silver award
75 reads - Gold award
100 reads - Reading Ambassador
P.E is on Thursday and Friday .
On these days your child can wear their full PE kit into school. A full PE kit is a red t-shirt, black shorts, black trainers and a school jumper or cardigan. We do not allow children to wear pumps during PE so please ensure your child has trainers. If you do not have a full PE kit please come to school in your normal uniform and change into your PE kit before the lesson. No jewellery is allowed in PE. This also includes studded earrings. If your child is unable to remove their earrings, then please send them in with plasters to cover them up.
It is important for all children to have a water bottle in school every day. These should be clearly labelled with their name and class.

Toy Workshop
The children have had a fantastic day learning about wooden toys from the past. We have learnt about one of the oldest toys made, how toys were made and the forces needed to make toys move such as push, pull and gravity. During the day, the children used a drill and hammer with support, to make a small wooden toy. They have designed and decorated their toy of choice before building it. They can't wait to play with them next week and to bring them home to share with you.
History - Toys
The children have been exploring toys from the past and comparing them to toys in the present. The children have used a range of vocabulary to explore they toys and look at similarities and differences between toys from the past and modern toys.
School Grounds Week
Week beginning 28th September is our School Ground Week. In Year 2 we have an 'Under the sea' theme. The children have taken part in a number of activities like making jelly fish, creating a fish picture, building a scarecrow and making themed wind chimes. We have all had lots of fun! They have also painted some sea shells to go alongside our under the sea theme, collected natural objects to make animals like fish, turtles, sharks and jellyfish and have enjoyed using the chalk to create some fish creatures. We hope you've enjoyed seeing them on our playground.
As our blocked learning this week has been computing, we have been outside to do an 'unplugged activity' where the children were using instructions (algorithms) to guide a partner to a place in the playground. We have also been on a bear hunt! We used the repeated phrases to say together and used our drama and acting skills to add to the story.
DT - Pouches
The children will have bought home the pouches they have made in our DT lessons this week. The children have practised a running stitch before using a template to cut their fabric. They designed how they wanted their pouch to look before decorating their pouches. We think they all look fantastic!!
Maths - Flexibly partition 2 digit numbers
Here are the children working hard in maths using manipulatives to flexibly partition two digit numbers.
English - The Toymaker work
Have a look at our fantastic work on the story 'The Toymaker' by Martin Waddell. We've explored the characters, wrote a diary, predicted what could happen in the second half of the story, wrote a character description and created a story map. We will link this work to our history topic 'How have toys changed?' later in the half term.
