  • Developing Communication Skills

In the Gruffalo Class we use a Total Communication approach to support every child's understanding and ability to communicate. This means we use a range of communication methods alongside spoken language, including visual supports, objects, photographs, symbols, gestures, facial expressions and signing where appropriate. By using multiple ways to communicate, we help children understand what is happening around them, express their needs, make choices, and interact with others. Total Communication ensures that every child has a voice and can take an active part in learning and everyday school life.
