 Week beginning 28.9.26

This week has been School Grounds Week. The children have loved being outside and creating things using natural materials that we have found. We have made things such as: wind chimes, stained glass art, dream catchers, hedgehog prints, scarecrows and art with natural materials. Take a look at the pictures below!

Autumn 1 work so far

Have a look at some of the amazing work we have been doing in Year 1 so far in Autumn 1. Here are some pictures of our English, Science and Geography.

Owl Babies

In English, we have read the story 'Owl Babies' by Martin Waddell. During the first lesson, the children explored the feelings of the baby owls through 'Freeze Frame' acting. The children were told to freeze at various points during the story and talk to their partners about how the owls are feeling. We had feeling words such as: scared, upset, worried, anxious, relieved. You can see the feelings through the children's faces!

In the next lesson, the children retold the story in their own words.

Homework

Children in Year 1 are expected to read their Little Wandle book daily.

Every Friday your child will be sent home with a phonics sheet.

The phonics sheet will outline the phonemes and tricky words learnt that week so these can be revisited and consolidated at home.  The sheet itself will be self explanatory but if you need any support or guidance, please see a member of the Year 1 team.  The phonics sheet does not need to be returned.

Children will be sent home with 2 books every week. One book is to build upon their decoding and fluency skills (changed on a Monday) and the other is a choice book for reading for pleasure (changed on a Tuesday). Please ensure they bring their book and diary in everyday as children will need their decodable book for their Early Reading sessions in school. Books that are lost/damaged will incur a charge of £5.

Children should be reading their book daily.  Please remember to sign the reading record every time they have read so your child can be a Reading Ambassador.

PE

P.E is on Tuesday and Thursday  .

On these days your child can wear their full PE kit into school.

A full PE kit is a red t-shirt, black shorts and black trainers. We do not allow children to wear pumps during PE so please ensure your child has trainers. If you do not have a full PE kit please come to school in your normal uniform and change into your PE kit before the lesson.

No jewellery is allowed in PE. This also includes studded earrings. If your child is unable to remove their earrings, then please send them in with plasters to cover them up.

For Dance and Gymnastics, children will have bare feet. If your child is unable to do PE in bare feet, please send in a letter. If the child does not have the correct PE kit, they will not be able to take part in the lesson for health and safety reasons.

Welcome to Year 1!
