Writing task 4
Write the front page of the newspaper on the morning of 8th May.
Remember, you’ll need a picture (not of the celebrations, they’ll be happening during the day so what might you choose instead?) and a headline telling the big news in 5 words or less. Will you write one big article or a few small ones?
The news – The war of 6 years is over in Europe; Today, 8th May will be a holiday; Churchill to make speech at 3pm; Royal Family will appear on Buckingham Palace Balcony; Efforts to remember those lost; Maybe about the celebrations in other countries; The release of the Channel Islands (The only parts of the British Isles to be occupied by the Germans, Guernsey and Jersey were freed on the 8th and the others over the next days).
Challenge: To use fronted adverbials (correctly punctuated) to vary the way sentences start.
