In Spring 1, we have been learning about extreme climates on Earth and how animals' bodies adapt to such conditions. We have learnt about penguins in Antarctica, camels in Sahara, compared Antarctic and Arctic regions and looked at the similarities and differences between North and South Pole. The pupils were fascinated by the fact files and video diaries. We explored questions such as:
Why is Antarctica a continent and Arctic region not?
Why don't penguins fly but are still classify as birds?
Why do camels have fur when it's so hot in the desert?
Why don't their hooves burn?
Why do people not live permanently in Antarctica, even though it's a continent but they do in the Arctic region?
