L.O. To write a poem about a ‘childhood’ experience

Think about how the poem ‘Ode to Barry Island’ tells a story of travelling to and staying at the seaside with the family and making new friends and going on the beach and how the weather is never good in your memory but that actually the sun did shine sometimes.


Think of a holiday you have been on (or just a day trip will do) and tell the story in shorts lines of information: the things that people said, the highlights and the lowlights of the day, the journey to and from, who you met, what you did, where you stayed and - most especially - what you thought about each bit.


Challenge: To include a line that repeats like the one about going to Barry Island in the last week in July
